OBJECTIVE: Assist Senior Accountant with the financial responsibilities for the organization to ensure accurate processing, recording and storing of financial transactions and supporting documents and maintain compliance with state and federal sales tax code.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain tax records and prepare sales tax returns, related schedules, and related reports for multi-state sales tax jurisdictions.
Maintain sales tax rates and customer sales tax status in computerized member management system.
Research and resolve state tax notices on a timely basis by investigating and interpreting state tax regulations.
Assist with the month-end closing process including, but not limited to
Reconcile and balance general ledger account balances to the applicable subsidiary ledger and other available documentation.
Conduct research on account discrepancies and prepare correcting journal entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals and closing journal entries.
Prepare month-end closing reports
Assume responsibility for the preparation of the department daily check log.
Oversee and reconcile Staff credit card statements and prepare journal entries to reclassify the charges to the appropriate general ledger accounts
Prepare deposits of refunds and reimbursements received from vendors and/or staff that are not processed through accounts receivable.
Assist with annual filing of 990 e-postcards for individual chapters.
Prepare miscellaneous journal entries and account adjustments.
Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information.
Maintain financial security by following internal controls.
Promote a customer service mindset within the Financial Services team.
Support implementation of the strategic plan.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Three years work experience in accounting; non-profit experience preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines , and take direction.
Must be detail oriented and accurate, with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with a high degree of competency in Microsoft Excel.
Examine data to grasp issues, draw conclusions, and solve problems.
Clearly conveys and receives information and ideas.

This work environment is an office-like setting with moderate noise.
Physical Exertion: The incumbent may frequently be required to lift approximately 10 pounds and/or occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Vision: The incumbent must possess close, midrange, distance and peripheral vision; as well as the ability to identify colors, judge distances and adjust focus.
Speaking/Hearing: The incumbent must be able to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
Motor Coordination: The incumbent in this position is frequently required to: use their hands and reach with their hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to: stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or bend.
