We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Senior Accountant II to join our organization’s Finance Department. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant II will be responsible for a broad range of transactions, reconciliations and various other accounting activities in the general ledger, including oversight for the Fixed Assets subledger. This role also will serve as a back-up payroll processor for the Institute. This position requires you to be technical in nature, handle a variety of tasks, and communicate and prioritize responsibilities to meet accounting cycle and reporting deadlines. You should be detail-oriented, organized and efficient, able to work independently with moderate guidance and within a team environment. Assist in month-end, quarterly and fiscal year-end closes by preparing journal entries and monthly accruals and reconciling accounts to the general ledger.
Process periodic payroll under the oversight of the Payroll Manager by reviewing the accuracy of time records and resolving discrepancies, analyzing and inputting payroll action items as appropriate, and preparing and posting payroll related general ledger journal entries.
Manage the fixed assets function for the Institute, to include oversight of the fixed asset subledger in the financial system, review of purchases for capitalization, depreciation and disposal, preparation of property tax returns and coordination of physical inventories and reviews for impairment and obsolescence of assets.
Cross-train and provide back-up support within all areas of Finance.
Assist Finance Team with the evaluation and implementation of a new financial enterprise software.
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting
5+ years related accounting experience in GL accounting, to include fixed assets and other general ledger cycles and accounts
Experience preparing month-end journal entries, basic financial statement and audit preparation and workpapers. Well-versed in reviewing reports prepared by Staff or Junior Accountants.
Strong fundamental technical knowledge of the payroll function, Federal and State payroll laws and regulations, time reporting and related journal entries and reconciliations, with demonstrated ability to run an independent payroll.
Strong analytical skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet critical deadlines
Knowledge of GAAP and accrual based accounting as applicable to non-profits
Proven experience and comfort working with ERP accounting software, databases, Excel spreadsheets and various websites
High level of accuracy and attention to detail and a commitment to seeing open items through to successful resolution
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, a professional attitude and able to work confidentially with sensitive information
Willing to work a defined hybrid onsite and remote schedule
