The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Staff Accountant. The job duties of the Staff Accountant include, but are not limited to, performing advanced professional level duties and responsibilities in the field of accounting; preparing and maintaining account ledgers, reporting of financial data, formulating reports and reconciliations; processing liability and workers compensation insurance claims; assisting with special projects and providing efficient and courteous service to Village residents, employees and the general public.
Serve as the lead accountant for the Glenbard Wastewater Authority, which includes performing month-end close and reconciliation, preparing financial reports, and other accounting functions as necessary.
Prepare month-end close and reconciliation for the Village of Glen Ellyn
Preparing audit work papers for the Glenbard Wastewater Authority and the Village, as assigned.
Administer the accounting and financial reporting for the Village’s Police Pension Fund.
Coordinate preparation of the Pension Fund’s annual Department of Insurance filing.
Manage and maintain accounting clerical records, and drafts various written correspondence.
Perform a number of complex monthly accounting reconciliations and entries to close the financial period.
Prepare a variety of detailed account analysis and financial reports as required.
Prepare monthly general billing and manage and escalate collection issues as they arise.
Oversee collection of the Village’s food and beverage tax.
Oversee reconciliation of escrow account deposits, refunds and record maintenance.
Prepare schedules for the annual budget process.
Process and follow up on risk management claims reporting and documentation, including workers compensation and liability claims management and oversight.
Complete annual renewal documents for liability and workers compensation insurance with assistance and consultation with the Village Attorney.
Be a power user for MUNIS and serve as a key employee in any MUNIS updates or enhancements.
Perform other accounting reconciliations and special projects as assigned.
Cross train on payroll and provide backup as needed.
Candidates applying for this position must possess an Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field. Aminimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting is required.
The Village is seeking a candidate who maintains a professional demeanor when dealing with the public and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. residents, employees and senior management). The position requires the ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures; work independently, efficiently plan work and establish priorities; along with comprehend, retain and apply Village, State and Federal polices and legislation.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience using enterprise financial/accounting software systems; prior experience using MUNIS (Tyler Technologies) would be ideal. Candidates must be computer savvy, and have excellent MS Office software skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
The anticipated annual salary offered for this full-time, non-exempt position is $58,744 to $74,038 DOQ, with excellent fringe benefits.
