The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Dentistry has an opportunity for an Accountant . This position serves as a primary Accountant supporting the Clinical Departments. The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD), established as the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1840, is the world's first dental college. The mission of the UMSOD is to improve the quality of life in Maryland through education, research, and service related to health, with special emphasis on improving dental, oral and craniofacial health through comprehensive education, research, and service programs. The Accountant in the Clinical Departments will serve a key role in the Dean's Office to support accurate and timely financial analysis and reporting, to ensure compliance with state guidelines regarding travel, foundation, procurement and corporate purchasing card activity.

Administers and maintains assigned accounts to verify accuracy of transactions and uniform application of policies, procedures, and acceptable standards. Serve as SOD expert in the following areas by answering, interpreting, and clarifying policy/procedure questions regarding
Corporate Purchasing Card
Receives, analyzes, adjusts, and prepares various internal/external financial ledgers, schedules, exhibits and summaries along with any assigned databases utilized for financial reporting. Serve as Foundation lead perform complex deep-dive research and analysis of all foundation agreements, current utilization of funds, and tracking of activity and balances. Inform senior management on recurring basis on foundation account activity and recommend appropriate utilization/execution. Align closely with SOD to strategize potentially appropriate utilization of foundation funds to meet department needs.
Monitors and delegates assigned budgetary transactions (i.e., expense analysis tracking against budget and forecasting). Notify management regarding potential expense overruns, monitor and track progress.
Provides general research and overview of various procedures and programs including but not limited to Foundation expenditure guidelines, tracking of account purchases/expenditures, and SOD fiscal procedures and policies.
At higher levels essential duties may include increased complexity, independence, and responsibility, as well as additional supervisory requirements such as incumbent training, performance management, and quality assurance.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Experience: 2 years of related experience.
Other: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Credit history review may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of best practices, principles, theories, techniques, and methodology in the field as well as all relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies for meeting compliance. Ability to participate in the development of policies and procedures.
Ability to clearly communicate results of work both orally and in writing to clients and management.
Ability to cooperate and work with others in order to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
Ability to carry out multiple assignments and plan accordingly in order to meet scheduled deadlines.
Supervisory skills with the ability to oversee, motivate, and lead subordinate staff.
Ability to effectively implement analytical and organizational skills in order to carry out and follow through with complex assignments for which no clear precedents exist.
Skill in acting as a liaison with key external agencies, campuses, or other high level contacts.
Skill in using Microsoft Office software and PeopleSoft financial system for advanced analysis and useful reporting.
