Reporting to the Controller, the Budget Analyst and Staff Accountant is responsible for complex accounting duties which include managing the School's overall budget process, ensuring the overall processing of all journal entries, analysis of data, preparation of management reports and financial statements, cash receipts, and account reconciliations in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). In addition, this position coordinates all audit prep and process and oversees the fixed asset system.
Budget Process Management
Set up the budget system School-wide
Develop and deliver training to budget managers
Develop and manage the budget calendar
Provide direction to budget managers during process
Create budget reports
Working the VP, Finance and Controller, analyze budget outcomes and make changes as appropriate
Account Analysis and Reconciliation
Reconcile GL account balances to appropriate ledgers and external supporting documentation including bank/credit accounts, fixed assets, accruals and prepaid expenses
Investigate differences and resolve in a timely manner.
Monitor daily bank transactions, prepare cash & investment reporting and advise management as appropriate.
Prepare monthly financial reports
Perform account analysis to make sound financial decisions and communicate on a timely basis.
Perform cost control activities
Monitor departmental expenditures to ensure sound fiscal control.
Manage month, qtr. and year end close to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results.
Maintain the close and financial reporting calendar(s) and communicate with stakeholders re: cut-offs, etc.
Journal Entry/Audit/Payable Transaction
Prepare and Post journal entries
Work with internal and external data to prepare and post transactions to Agresso GL.
Coordinate all audit/tax activities and prepare supporting work papers for year-end audit and annual 990 tax return.
Process invoices for payment in accordance with related policies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree obtained through a formal four-year program
CPA certification is preferred
5+ years of experience in GAAP accounting, cash management, financial statement preparation and analysis
Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Experience with an integrated accounting system
Advanced MS Excel skills, including pivot tables; Advanced PowerPoint skills
Superior attention to detail
Strong customer service skills
Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple demands
Excellent organizational skills
Effective communication skills, both oral and written at all levels of the organization
