Trupanion is looking for a Senior Accountant who will play a key role in the preparation and review of financial information for internal decision-making and external reporting. As a critical member of a rapidly growing, public company, this role will serve as a primary contact to other departments in the organization and will work collaboratively to facilitate coordination among teams and departments with a focus on operational expenses and the monthly accrual process. This role requires a highly detailed individual who remains cognizant of the big picture in an evolving environment, and will assist with driving the improvement of tools, processes, and procedures to allow the company to rapidly scale. Key Responsibilities Include:
Participate in driving the month-end close process by meeting deadlines to allow for timely reporting, while also facilitating communication and quickly resolving issues.
Provide timely and accurate review of journal entries and reconciliations, with exposure to areas such as cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, allocations, and inventory.
Prepare complex journal entries relating to building ownership and operating leases, provide analysis of activity and produce standalone financials.
Assist in the coordination, tracking, and completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual SOX controls, internal and external deliverables for SEC reporting and key internal decision-making, quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
Analyze monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and demonstrate a strong understanding of Trupanion's key metrics.
Assist with our day to day operational accounting and be a "go-to" expert in GL coding methodology to ensure accurate categorization of expenses to appropriate entity, budget, product, and geography.
Think critically and maintain an inquisitive approach to recommend, implement, and document process improvements to promote efficiency and SOX compliance
Provide leadership by supporting, mentoring, and coaching accounting staff and specialists

Education, Registration & Certification:
BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA and public accounting experience preferred.
3+ years of accounting experience including monthly close and journal entry review in a fast-paced business environment.
Experience in a multi-entity environment is a plus.
Proven track record of independently leading multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities and deadlines, prioritizing communications and requests, and organizes, maintains, and streamlines processes.
Experienced with GAAP and financial statements, has the ability to understand technical accounting concepts and topics
Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Dynamics GP a plus
Familiarity with operational cash and accounts payable processes a plus
Well-developed oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical ability and detail oriented
Desire to creatively problem-solve and innovate processes
