We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team!
Working collaboratively with and reporting directly to the Director of Accounting and Finance/Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day transactional accounting for Castilleja School. This is a key position and the person will be an integral part of the Business Office team as well as work closely with the Advancement and Admission departments. This position is responsible for processing a high volume of transactions coming from multiple areas of the organization. The position requires effective organizational and time-management skills, and a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, critical thinking, and confidentiality while meeting time-sensitive deadlines. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt position.
Perform end to end accounting duties
Month end close
Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
Prepare monthly financial statements
Note and investigate changes in financial position/budget variance analysis
Assist in the design and preparation of budgets for review by management
Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules
Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
Maintain accounting records as required per company policy and required for GAAP and control purposes (documentation, approvals, etc.)
Assess and apply best practices through process improvement and creating workflow efficiencies, e.g. reduce processing time, improve accuracy and reduce paper-based processes.
Handle special projects and provide backup support as needed for finance/accounting team
Manage the full cycle of AR (post cash receipts, process credit card payments, prepare daily bank deposits and record them accurately)
Manage the full cycle of AP (weekly check runs, expense reports, wire payments, and ACH payments)
Maintain A/P files
Prepare 1099s annually
Work with the Admissions Office to ensure accounts receivable balances reflect enrollment contracts and financial aid agreements.
Process and record all payments received directly from families
Generate journal entries to reflect the revenue and accounts receivable balances in the general ledger.
Manage all aging accounts over 30 days and follow up with customers to collect on past due accounts.
Record and deposit funds received by the Advancement Department
Reconcile monthly between the Business Office and Advancement records
Record pledge payments as received and maintain Business Office pledge payment schedules
Produce monthly budget reports
Prepare journal entries
Reconcile bank accounts
Provide support documentation for audits

Required Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree, preferably in business or accounting.
Five years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or school setting, CPA preferred
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite
Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
