Under minimal supervision, manages Accounting function and personnel, processes month-end close, reconciles balance sheet activity, and manages monthly payroll process and annual audit and W-2 reporting.
Processes month-end closing of books and maintains general ledger
Reconciles all Balance Sheet accounts including bank accounts
Manages all other Accounting Dept. personnel
Processes monthly payroll
Processes payments to benefits providers
Provides Budget vs. Actual reports to Head of School and department managers
Works with the Director of Finance on reconciliations and projects
Works with the Staff Accountant to ensure that payroll deductions for HSA contributions and dependent group insurance premiums are correct
Interfaces with bank, payroll provider, insurance broker, benefits providers, Development personnel as required
Administers COBRA continuation coverage for former employees
Manages Unemployment Insurance claims, interfaces with HR to determine whether/how to contest
Maintains OSHA records annually, coordinating with Director of Facilities and Transportation and Human Resources to ensure that files and postings are kept current
Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the schools constituencies
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
Since safety and security are everyones responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Accounting from a 4-year college or university required
3-5 years experience managing the Accounting function required
CPA designation (active or inactive) preferred
Experience working with Paycom payroll system preferred
Experience working in the non-profit sector strongly prefer
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficient at reviewing and posting General Ledger activity
Knowledge of GAAP, and General Ledger structure
Solid knowledge of the non-profit accounting model
Proficient in accounting functions in Senior Systems AR and AP module strongly preferred
Proficient in Senior Systems Admissions and Development modules
Proficient in using 3rd party payroll service providers
Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment (Windows 7 or higher), using Office (version 2010 or higher); ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to sit and keyboard for up to 8 hours per day
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (full file boxes)
