The University of Minnesota (UMN), the public land-grant research university of the State of Minnesota, invites inquiries, nominations an expressions of interest for the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the UMN Medical School and M Physicians, the multi-specialty group practice for the Medical School faculty.
The Medical School is part of one of the premier academic health centers in the country. The University of Minnesota is the only school in the nation to have schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, public health and veterinary medicine all on one campus. Nearly three out of four health care professionals in Minnesota are educated at the University of Minnesota, and are vital to fulfilling the land-grant mission of the University and serving the future health care needs of the state of Minnesota.
The Medical School is revered as a national research powerhouse, with more than 10 research centers and institutes. It has long been recognized for its pioneering work and is a worldwide leader in family medicine, regenerative medicine, transplantation, neurosciences, cancer, global medicine and basic science research. The Medical School ranks 28th in NIH funding and has over $277 million in sponsored research. M Physicians is one of the largest academic, multispecialty group practices in the country, and is known for providing high-quality and leading-edge care, as well as breakthrough research and training for the next generation of health professionals.
The CFO reports to the Dean of the Medical School, Jakub Tolar, MD, PhD and the Chief Executive Officer of M Physicians and Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs for UMN Medical School, Bevan Yueh, MD, PhD. The next CFO will serve as a key member of an outstanding leadership team at one of the most comprehensive and advanced academic medical centers and faculty practice plans in the country. The CFO is responsible for a combined budget of $1.5 billion for the Medical School and M Physicians.
The CFO will be responsible and accountable for the overall financial stewardship and financial management of UMN Medical School and M Physicians. They will coordinate financial activities of the Medical School and M Physicians with those of UMN. They will develop and maintain strong working relationships with the M Physicians Board and the UMN Board of Regents. The CFO will play a key leadership role in the development and management of the next iteration of the master agreement between the Medical School, M Physicians and Fairview Health Services that is branded as MHealth Fairview. The integration of these three organizations allows MHealth Fairview to serve the market as an integrated academic health system that delivers exceptional experiences for patients and families through high quality, integrated health care, advanced medical research and nation-leading education of the health care teams of the future.
