Bridgewater State University’s Department of Fiscal Affairs provides stakeholders and the campus community with timely, relevant and accurate fiscal reporting in accordance with federal, state and other laws and regulations. The Fiscal Affairs Department oversees the areas of general accounting, treasury, grant reporting and fiscal functions of the University and the University’s component units, Bridgewater State University Foundation and Bridgewater State University Alumni Association.

Under the direction of the Comptroller, the Assistant Comptroller Foundation/Alumni is responsible for providing daily, functional support to ensure that the University's Component units official accounting records are properly maintained in accordance with external laws and reporting requirements, internal policies, and generally accepted accounting principles. Primary responsibilities include ensuring accurate and timely donor reporting, board reporting and financial statement reporting; training, developing and coordinating the work efforts of assigned accounting staff; implementing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, ensuring the accuracy of University component unit financial records and the production of various financial statements and reports.
The Assistant Comptroller assists the Comptroller with the financial reporting needs which respond to the strategic needs of the University and Component Units and revisions to accounting standards, as well as preparing and responding to University and component unit audit and board requests. The Assistant Comptroller also provides direct support to the Comptroller as well as to the Division of Finance and serves as a liaison to the Advancement Department.
Supervision Received: The Assistant Comptroller Foundation/Alumni works under the direct supervision of the Comptroller of Fiscal Affairs.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises supervision of various professional, non-professional and student personnel in Fiscal Affairs. Serves as first line supervisor for the personnel of the Fiscal Affairs Office.

1. Oversees the daily operations of accounting and financial reporting for the University component units; performs daily and monthly accounting and financial reporting tasks for the University component units; assists the Comptroller in the oversight of all financial reporting to ensure the integrity of financial data and stewardship of donor restricted funds. 2. Assists in the assessment of internal controls for the component units to include the development and maintenance of updates to the fiscal policy and procedures manuals. 3. This position will prepare schedules for monthly reconciliations of investment accounts, quarterly financial statements, analytics and board materials, review pledge agreements and record and monitor pledge activity. 4. Analyze new gift types and complex transactions to determine appropriate classification, restrictions, and use of funds. 5. Prepare online journal entries ensuring compliance with donor or other restrictions and accurate and complete accounting information. 6. Prepare Component Unit’s Operating and Endowment budgets for review with Chief Development Office, Chief Financial Officer and Associate Vice President of Finance. 7. Construct the annual donor endowment statements to help inform donors of the impact of their philanthropic investments, provide transparency, fiscal accountability and overall donor stewardship. 8. Assists with cash management, cash flow and investment activities of the University and component units. 9. Manages computerized general ledger, chart of accounts, accounting records and reconciliations for both the University and component units. 10. Assists the Comptroller with the preparation and execution of the annual independent financial statement audit for the University, Foundation and Alumni Association . Assists with annual tax reporting. Assists the Comptroller with any and all other audits or reviews that are required. 11. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or other closely related field 2. Three (3) – Five (5) years of professional work experience 3. Knowledge/practice of FASB standards 4. Demonstrated abilities in fiscal control and proven supervisory and leadership skills 5. Experience with computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets 6. Ability to effectively resolve sensitive fiscal issues and maintain confidentiality and data security at all times 7. Strong time management and planning skills required to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while adapting to changes in business requirements in a fast-paced environment 8. Excellent research and documentation skills 9. Strong attention to detail, analytical capability and professional judgment are required. 10. Ability to effectively collaborative across divisional lines
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of Massachusetts laws, regulations, accounting policies and procedures preferred 2. Certified public accountant, Certified fraud examiner, or experience in public accounting 3. Experience in Higher Education preferred 4. Non-profit experience 5. Knowledge of Blackbaud Raisers Edge/Financial Edge Accounting software preferred 6. Knowledge of Ellucian Banner preferred
