Daily Hours: Summary PositionThe assistant controller is responsible for managing the annual financial audit, NCAA audit and OMB Single Audit along with other external reporting as needed. The assistant controller serves as the subject matter expert to research and document GAAP and other authoritative guidance for reporting for the university. This position requires excellent analytical skills, a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and experience in coordinating the preparation and analysis of financial statements.
Education Requirements At a minimum, an undergraduate degree in accounting or in business management/finance with, at least, six years of experience in accounting and management. Masters in Accounting or MBA preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
Higher Education experience preferred
Excellent knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with Ellucian Colleague a plus.
Ability to perform financial analysis, including budget to actual variance analysis and forecasting.
Strong supervisory experience and ability to work as part of a team.
Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve outstanding issues.
Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, a professional customer service demeanor, and the ability to work with confidential information.
Ability to analyze/interpret data and take appropriate action.
Aptitude for technology and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

This position requires excellent analytical skills, a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and experience in coordinating the preparation and analysis of financial statements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise month-end close for General Ledger and coordinate the overall month-end close process including reviewing monthly reconciliations
Manage the preparation of the universitys financial records for the annual audit cycle
Manage annual financial audit with external auditors including NCAA Audit and Uniform Guidance/Single Audit
Prepare external financial statements and footnotes
Prepare internal quarterly financial statements
Prepare monthly financial updates, dashboards, and report variances
Provide guidance and development for members of the accounting team.
Supervise the Fixed Asset Accountant and Senior Accountant for Reporting.
Ensure all accounting practices are following legal guidelines and established accounting principles including implementation of new standards
Research accounting pronouncements for compliance with authoritative guidance and impact to the university
Review 990, 990T and state tax returns
Update internal control documentation annually
Collaborate with the IT department to maintain financial records and system processes
Support other areas in the accounting department as needed.
Partner with University Advancement for the recording and monitoring of gifts.
Other accounting related duties as assigned.
