The Accountant will read, review and interpret award documents to ensure award setup is complete in PeopleSoft, and provide notification to campus units of award information. The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining good cash flow through proper invoicing/payment and timely financial reporting of assigned sponsored awards. Candidates with additional experience will be considered for the Senior Level Accountant title.

The Accountant is responsible for the overall post award financial coordination and management of assigned externally funded grants and contracts, including accounting, reporting and closeout functions. This position is responsible for assuring financial compliance with applicable federal, state and UMBC regulations. Coordinating with departmental and central unit personnel, the Accountant will be responsible for the financial closeout function of sponsored awards. The Accountant will participate in training and development involving a variety of sponsored post-award financial administration activities.
This position has a working knowledge of OCGA areas of responsibility and how central campus groups like the Office of Sponsored Programs and Financial Accounting & Reporting function in their relationship with OCGA.
Candidates with additional experience will be considered for the Senior Level Accountant.
Additional Duties for Senior Accountant:
The Senior Accountant performs at a high level and exhibits proficient knowledge associated with Office of Contract and Grant Accounting (OCGA) operations. The Senior Accountant will perform with independence and minimal supervisory oversite and may also assist Grant Accountants as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related field.
One year of experience with general accounting practices and procedures
Critical thinking skills and keen attention to detail
Advanced organizational skills demonstrated by the ability to prioritize tasks and work well under the pressure of deadlines
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Excel and Word, Microsoft Office, Adobe and other common office platforms and applications)
Must use good judgment and use discretion, and maintain confidentiality
Additional requirements Senior Level Accountant:
Two years of experience in Research Administration Accounting or related Financial Accounting
Experience in both Central and Departmental administration of Sponsored Research activities is preferred.
Basic working knowledge of federal regulations including Uniform Guidance and the FARs
