This position will function under the general supervision of Department Leadership. This position will prepare, review, and conduct complex financial processes and procedures. This position requires understanding of numerous policies and procedures, including University of Wisconsin (UW), School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), UW Foundation (UWF), and UW Health (UWH). This person will assist with post-award processes, procurement transactions, payroll, budgeting, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
Performs advanced accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares and reviews financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions.
15% Organizes, prepares, and updates financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
15% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements solutions as needed
15% Develops and maintains automated financial systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity
15% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports
15% Provides and prepares budgets and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures
15% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures
10% Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments

Education:
Preferred Associate's Degree Accounting, finance, or equivalent experience in accounting or related role preferred
Qualifications:
Experience Required: - Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically, Excel. - Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). - Proficient in accounting systems.
Experience Preferred: - Prior accounting experience in an academic medical setting. - Prior experience at UW Health, School of Medicine and Public Health, or UW Madison.
Knowledge and Skills Required: - Attention to detail, work well under pressure, and deadline driven. - Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Demonstrated independent critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred: - Knowledge of University of Wisconsin (UW), School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), UW Foundation (UWF), and UW Health (UWH) policies and procedures. - Knowledge of HIPPA requirements.
