The Highlights Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Finance, the Lead Financial Analyst is responsible for conducting comprehensive and complex financial and budgetary analysis in support of the University's business and fiscal operations. The role requires both independent initiatives as well as an ability to engage in team collaboration on various projects, with various internal and external parties. The Lead Financial Analyst uses best practices and in-depth financial knowledge to assist in strategic university planning. This position will work with minimal guidance to provide analytical support for complex forecasting and projections. Significant initiative and independent judgment is required. The Lead Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial analysis and business decision support to the division and unit leadership for current programs and new opportunities. The role will analyze, review and report financial and operational results, as well as support development of business plans for new and existing opportunities, and providing financial analyses for senior management decision support and strategic planning. This position will support multiple programs and leaders. The position requires a broad and deep knowledge of financial reporting, financial services, financial operations, industry practices, and accounting and finance principles and best practices. This is hybrid position that will primarily be remote, with some in office presence required as needed.
Is This You? - Develop and execute financial analysis and operations strategy consulting projects, collaborating with departments and divisions throughout the university while leveraging partners in Financial Affairs, Budgets, Human Resources, Facilities, Purchasing, Academic Affairs, and more.
- The Lead Analyst will be assigned an area of expertise and will identify opportunities and execute consultative project plans for the assigned area of expertise (e.g. financial forecasting, operations project development).
- Develop and maintain operating KPI dashboard to actively monitor university wide, and division performance in relation to financial and overall operations.
- This will require strong relationship management between multiple departments in Financial Affairs (Financial Accounting, Financial Services, Restricted Accounting), the Treasurer's Office (Procurement, Treasury Ops,), HR (Recruiting, Compensation), the Provost Office (Academic Affairs, IRMA), and several other university departments.
- Partner with Operational Reporting team and Financial Accounting to ensure routine Operational Reporting (Monthly, Quarterly, Annual) reflects current and accurate results.
- Utilize results of Operational Reporting to update all relevant long term planning tools.
- Additionally, partner with groups listed above, and Financial Systems and Processes team, to ensure Financial Reporting suite is as effective as possible. This may involve development of new or existing reporting.
- Other miscellaneous projects as assigned by the AVP Finance & Operations or the Executive Vice President, and at the direction of the Board of Trustees and other Board subcommittees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your Education - Bachelor's degree.
- Approximately 8 years of progressive experience in Accounting, Budgeting, or Financial Analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, experience with developing complex financial models, and demonstrated ability to create and deliver concise presentations.
Preferred Requirements - Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance.
- Higher education experience.
Required Certifications/Licenses - Certified Public Accountant license or master's degree preferred.
Financial Responsibilities - Dollar Amount - The Lead Financial Analyst is responsible for maintaining reporting pertaining to the entire university, with the scope of operating and capital budgets totaling to roughly $600 million.
- Contacts - This position provides guidance to executives and non-executives both internal and external to the university.
- Information - This position requires access to information that is considered confidential. This may include employee, student, or university information.
Other Skills & Abilities Required - Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Advanced analytical skills, including finding synthesis and drawing conclusions from disparate data sources to provide comprehensive and meaningful conclusions.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, modeling and financial reporting and demonstrated experience managing datasets and databases.
- Thorough understanding of financial reports and financial modeling required.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented in order to track, manage, and resolve multiple ongoing projects and responsibilities in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Experience with developing and presenting complex topics to senior management.
- Work effectively individually and within a team.
- Demonstrated project management, research, and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively organize information, manage tasks, and clearly present results.
