Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance and Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting transactions in support of the Finance and Finance Office. This position requires a strong working knowledge of general accepted accounting principles, treasury and gift functions, financial systems and internal controls, and the ability to prepare financial reconciliations, analysis, and journal entries. The position also requires close attention to detail and the ability to work well independently as well as with other Financial Staff and departments on campus.
Domains:
Prepare monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
Review and monitor balance sheet accounts, including analysis of Trial Balance/General Ledger, and perform adjustments on a monthly basis.
Prepare monthly required analyses and schedules.
Maintain Fixed Assets module and related schedules.
Prepare and record monthly closing entries.
Assist with budgets and forecasting expenses for assigned programs.
Ensure that the Accounting and Financial policies & procedures are being followed.
Reconcile investment accounts, and make appropriate entries as needed.
Work with senior finance staff to assist in preparing requested financial reports.
Assist with annual audits.
Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Business Office.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
CPA or CPA-eligible, preferred.
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in combined business office and/or public accounting.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Proficient with Accounting General Ledger software, Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Including strong Excel and Word skills.
Ability to research problems and develop solutions with minimal guidance.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to work as part of a team with a flexible attitude.
Motivated and capable of independent work.
