The Department of General Accounting - Investments, Contributions, and Benefits is seeking aStaff II Investments Accountant who performs routine accounting activities requiring knowledge of systems, independent judgment and an ability to respond accordingly. This role oversees activities on various accounts, analyzes past and current data and prepares payout projections. They assist with the annual external audit and quarterly endowment trustee reporting. This position generates routine and ad hoc reports and conceptualizes projects and follows through. This individual possesses strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare journal entries, including moderately complex transactions, to ensure GAAP compliance.
Review and analyze significant accounting transactions to ensure proper GAAP treatment which may require research of technical accounting literature.
Process general ledger feeds from investment custodians and sub-ledger providers.
Reconcile results of general ledger feeds and resolve moderately complex discrepancies.
Run quarterly processes to allocate payout, market value, and buy-ins to the University's 4,000+ endowments.
Prepare monthly contribution revenue reconciliations and process gift assessments.
Prepare selected footnotes for the annual audited financial statements of the University, as well as supporting schedules for the unaudited quarterly University GAAP statements.
Assist in the preparation of materials for the quarterly Trustee Finance and Audit Committee meetings.
Develop proficiency in relevant accounting and reporting pronouncements, most notably, The Not for Profit Presentation of Financial Statements Standard and Fair Value Measurement Standard.
Provide excellent customer service to divisions, departments and faculty and provide information to University personnel in a prompt, accurate and cordial fashion.
Execute various reports using the SAP Analysis reporting tool from its various reporting modules; such as Special Ledger, Funds Management, and Controlling.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Related field required.
Two years of progressively responsible related work experience required.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*
If Bachelor's degree is in unrelated field, three years of progressively responsible experience is required.
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
SAP experience a plus.
Investment and/or endowment experience a plus.
Experience with various software applications (e.g. spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical and graphic packages), to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, Word, PowerPoint and various other applications.
