Partners with business to develop and implement accounting practices consistent with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other governing agencies such as FINRA, SEC, OTS, IRS, NAIC, and Insurance examiners. Responsible for ensuring that the various Ledgers and Records of Ameriprise Financial and its subsidiaries are properly accounted for and controlled.
Prepares and posts journal entries dealing with a combination of routine and more complex accounting transactions. Creates wire transaction requests.
Reconciles and owns balance sheet general ledger accounts by creating and preparing documentation that supports the reconciliations. Researches and clears outstanding items using various systems and reports.
Provides functional advice and training to business partners and less-experienced accountants. Participates as a subject matter expert on business projects and participates in user acceptace testing. Usually specializes in accounting for a particular line of business such as insurance, financial planning, mutual funds, banking, etc.
Reviews, analyzes, and recommends how to record new activities. Creates and revises spreadsheets that support the accounting, reconciliation and reporting of transactions and balances.
Improves processes to ensure that integrity, control and optimal efficiency are established while minimizing financial risks. Develops and implements process improvement initiatives that support the department goals and service levels.
Associates Degree or equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience Bachelor's degree with 0-5 years of relevant experience Ability to apply root cause analysis to obtain origination of critical operational and financial problems and protectively apply action steps to resolve issues.
Degree focus in Accounting or Finance or related field
Strong technical ability using the general ledger, spreadsheets, Access databases and word processing applications.
Strong understanding of the end-to-end process flows, systems, controls and impacts across products and business lines they support.
Strong understanding of systems, controls, accounting knowledge, financials, and processes.
