The Stanford Graduate School of Business Research Hub seeks a highly motivated individual who has an understanding of social science research, and a passion for getting things done. As the Director, Research Operations, reporting to the Executive Director, Research Hub, you will draw on a broad set of financial, operational, and creative problem-solving skills in order to facilitate and accelerate academic research at the GSB. You will have the opportunity to work/consult with faculty, staff, and stakeholders in various phases of research, and be responsible for managing operational processes of the organization. The areas of support will range from administration, finance, communications, and grant related duties, to coordinating administrative activities, to building systematic workflows to increase efficiency in recurring research tasks. The candidate will serve as a member of the Research Hub leadership team.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Manage finance and communications staff and acts as administrative manager in cases where administrative staff report directly to faculty.
Advise faculty and administrative staff on the development, setup, and implementation of a research lab or initiative.
Collaborate with other support services at the GSB and across the campus including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Faculty Support, Office of Sponsored Research, Institutional Review Board, Development, Stanford Libraries, Global Business Services, and CardinalTemps, to address the challenges associated with faculty research and facilitate the process and outcomes.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and ensure effective communications and workflows.
Finance & Grant Support
Develop budget plans and resource allocation recommendations in response to unit needs and goals.
Direct/advise on fiscal operations for the Research Hub and affiliated units.
Oversee the financial management of individual accounts and transactions, ensuring that all relevant regulations and policies are adhered to, appropriate cost controls are in place and necessary records are maintained.
Manage and advise on grant proposal development and submittal process; advise the staff who work closely with the PI and OSR to ensure that agency requirements and university policies are adhered to.
Oversee post-award processing and awards management, working closely with GSB Finance, OSR, the PI and other relevant entities. Establish mechanisms whereby projects are managed effectively from award through project close-out, including all necessary financial reporting.
Work closely with GSB Human Resources in administering various personnel functions.
Advise on personnel transactions for staff, students, post docs and others.
Oversee and/or develop complex communications for various continent delivery channels, including websites and newsletters.
Work in collaboration with faculty, administrative staff, GSB Communications, and other Institutional Communicators on media relations content and other areas.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory, planning and change management skills.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills. Able to influence people, solve problems, troubleshoot, think creatively and resolve conflicts.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
Extreme attention to detail and accuracy.
Expertise in business and management computer applications and databases.
Subject matter expertise for area(s) of responsibility.
Certifications and Licenses:
For this position, Cardinal Curriculum I and II must be completed.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Advanced financial expertise in accounting, budget planning, and financial forecasting.
Advanced expertise in grants administration.
Strong knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.
Strong negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and manage deadlines.
An advanced degree in a social sciences field is strongly preferred.
Certificated Accountant or Auditor, MBA, project management certification, or similar credential desired.
Familiarity with user experience or website design processes and tools.
