Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant/Financial Analyst will assist in maintaining records of fiscal and budgetary controls, ledgers, and/or other related transactions in either direct or indirect support of accountants or administrators. Processes routine financial documents and fund transactions, reconciles financial records, and analyzes routine financial data. Assists in the development, coordination, and maintenance of budgets, as appropriate. Typical duties may include classifying, proofing, and posting transactions to journals and ledgers; preparing trial balances; making routine account adjustments; maintaining control accounts to compare expenditures to the operating budgets; and preparing fiscal summaries and reports. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field in accounting or finance, or the equivalent in education or training. Considerable work experience in accounting. Knowledge of accounting principles, Excellent working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain spreadsheets. Ability to analyze, balance and/or reconcile financial data; ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and post to records. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PeopleSoft applications or similar software.
Experience in higher education or public sector experience. Experience with AIS, Cardinal. Knowledge of the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP).
