The Accountant serves in a customer-facing, consultative role and is responsible for providing finance support in a timely and accurate manner and in compliance with all applicable institutional, UNL, State, and Federal regulations, policies, and guidelines. The Accountant primarily executes and reviews complex travel, procurement, contracts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, foundation, budgeting, and asset management transactions. The Accountant will work closely with employees within the departments served, as well as functional office staff, providing a high level of customer service and professionalism in all interactions. This position functions under limited supervision and is expected utilize sophisticated technology to provide professional services.
Working both independently and as a member of the College of Law Business Operations team, this position is responsible for the financial management of various funding sources associated with the areas that are supported by the College of Law. Work closely with administrators, faculty and staff to ensure proper accounting procedures, regulations and deadlines are followed regarding each funding source. Accounting management activities to include: monitoring and evaluating expenditures to ensure accuracy relative to budget, allowability and funding restrictions; monitoring further obligations with contracts; preparing and analyzing monthly financial and statistical reports; providing guidance on best practices and effective use of resources.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of related accounting work experience; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience with SAP or large integrated accounting system. A willingness and demonstrated ability to learn new hardware and software systems. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with rules and regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA guidelines on the disclosure of information. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships within and outside of reporting lines. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Knowledge of accounting terminology and practices.
Bachelor's degree. Experience functioning in a team environment. Experience performing accounting tasks in a business setting. Experience performing accounting-related tasks at a University of Nebraska institution. Knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines related to business practices. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.
