The Highlights The Accountant is responsible for reporting, billing, analyzing, interpreting and reconciling grant related accounting information within the various Oracle Financial modules. This position also serves as liaison to ensure compliance with Federal, state and local regulations for several complex external grants and is responsible for a significant portion of Internal grants. This position will interact with budget managers, Office of Research Services and other departments across the University. The Staff Accountant participates in the overall financial team effort to provide quality service to all University constituencies while ensuring compliance with sponsor/regulatory requirement and assists in identification and development of improved processes.

Regulatory/sponsor compliance, customer service, & problem solving and process improvements:
External: Grant funding agencies, regulatory agencies and auditors.
Internal: Office Research Services, Budget Manager/Principal Investigators, and other university departments, including, as assigned, salary reallocation analysis, collection of receivables, cost transfers, set-up and final reconciliations and closeout of grant accounts, and resolution of budget issues and errors.
Reporting and Analysis - analysis, reconciliation, and issuance of interim and final sponsor/regulatory financial reports etc.
Analysis and invoice preparation, preparation of audit work papers and account reconciliations.
Special: Ensure compliance with regulations and act as liaison for several complex external grants, including all setup, reporting, problem identification and resolution, as well as preparation of related audit work papers and account reconciliations.
Training and Professional Development: Participate in grant-related training initiatives.
System and Technical: Assist with Oracle Cloud patch testing and upgrade.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
1 to 3 years of accounting experience.
CPA, MBA or progress towards a plus.
Other Skills & Abilities Required
Proficiency in spreadsheet, word processing and database applications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good analytical and problem solving skills.
Working knowledge of government rules and regulations concerning sponsored research and contracts a plus.
Oracle Cloud/ERP knowledge preferred.
