OVERVIEW
Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. Financial Services serves as a partner for student groups, ASI departments, and the University, providing financial supports to help meet business and programmatic needs of the $17M non-profit 501(c)3 corporation while maintaining fiscal integrity, data accuracy, and compliance with CSU, University and ASI policies and procedures. Our mission is to process financial transactions in a timely and efficient manner to meet the needs of the customers; prepare financial statements, projections, and analyses regularly to support informed decisions; protect company assets through proper internal controls to prevent loss or fraud; plan for appropriate allocation and reserve of resources to align with both short-term and long-term goals; provide excellent customer service and guidance to students, staff, and faculty; promote a positive work environment that fosters motivation, productivity and retention.
The ASI Director of Financial Services is a senior executive leader of ASI and works closely with the administration team to collaboratively oversee the management and administration of the corporation within the policy direction of the ASI student board.
Under general direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Financial Services is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of all fiscal affairs and finance-related processes, people, and assets required of ASI. The Director focuses on planning and efficiency while ensuring day-to-day management meets organizational objectives and satisfies legal and fiduciary requirements.
POSITION DEFINITION
The ASI Director of Financial Services reports to the ASI Executive Director (ED), who is the top executive professional position/CEO responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the corporate affairs of ASI and the organizations under its governance. The Director of Financial Services has direct oversight of ASI Financial Services. The Director of Financial Services advocates for sound financial practices in complex decision-making, manages corporate assets and day-to-day business transactions, oversees treasury management, assesses and manages financial and legal risks, plans for short- and long-term financial goals including capital renovations and expansions, and streamlines enterprise operations. The Financial Services team develops, manages, and maintains the organization's general & payroll accounting, fiscal, and budget functions. The Director of Financial Services ensures compliance with Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), California State University (CSU), state agency, federal agency and other external agency regulations, timelines, and requirements. This position effectively leads and supervises professional staff and students and creates an environment that values inclusivity, engages in evidence-based decision-making, promotes student participation and development, and fosters quality service.
The Director of Financial Services assumes the duties of the Executive Director (ED) when required. As a member of the ASI Leadership Team and partner to the ED and AED, this position is expected to perform as a senior-level professional consistently providing ethical, compassionate, collaborative, thoughtful, student-focused, and results-driven leadership to those internal and external to the organization. The Director of Financial Services works with significant independence, while regularly communicating openly, honestly, and directly with the ED, AED, and ASI department heads and their teams.
Essential to the success of the Director of Financial Services is a learner mindset, the ability to: apply context to any situation and see incidents in connection with each other; exhibit patience and a sense of calm during organizational challenges; laugh at oneself throughout the learning process; and seek and implement innovative ways to meet ASI's mission.

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY
Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, the employee must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 8.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination, verbal communication, use of office equipment: computer, telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Collaborative workspace where frequent interruptions are common. Must be able to walk, stand, bend and lift up to 25 pounds.
