POSITION SUMMARY:
Virginia Community Healthcare Association is seeking a Staff Accountant assist in the day-to-day operations of the accounting department by performing assigned duties in accordance with VCHA’s policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with preparing monthly reconciliation for all accounts including bank reconciliations and documentation.
- Assists with the monthly financial close, including but not limited to, monthly journal entries, bank statements, account reviews and aiding other staff with task completion.
- Maintains and updates spreadsheets, reports, and journal entry templates with cross checks to other appropriate data sources to ensure accuracy of outcomes.
- Develops and maintains systems of logs and records of financial activity to support accounting entries, information, and reports.
- Utilizes excel spreadsheet skills to collect and maintain financial data for analysis.
- Prepares accounts receivable and expense reconciliations on a monthly or quarterly basis and prepares adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Monitors the program distribution codes to ensure proper allocation of expenses.
- Prepares periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs.
- Prepares and analyzes balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Assists in preparation of annual and audit reports, financial audit, and subsequent grant audits throughout the year.
- Assists in review of grant expenditures and ensure proper spenddown.
- Assists in preparation of grant budgets and narratives in collaboration.
- Assists in accounts payable process.
- Work with the CFO to code all expenses and revenue.
- Verify accuracy of requisition and invoice submission.
- Process employee expense and travel reimbursement request
- Reconcile the bank account monthly.
- Manage regular expenditures and maintain all filing.
- Other administrative duties assigned by the CFO.
WORK HOURS:
This is a full-time 40 hour per week position. The employee work 8 hours per day on an adjusted schedule from a start of 7:00 am to a finish of 6:00 pm
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field of study required.
- Minimum of five years of work experience in accounting (non-profit a plus).
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient with Windows, Outlook, MS Office Suite, and QuickBooks
- He/she must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in written on all professional levels.
Skills & Abilities:
- Able to perform general bookkeeping including double-entry accounting and reconciliations
- Understands the chart of accounts, trial balance, and balance sheet
- Ability to work well with multiple deadlines and research effectively in multiple mediums.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Work well under pressure and deadlines.
