POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the Fiscal Management and Accounting Operations staff. This position is responsible for the monthly production of the University's financial statements and reports directly to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepare monthly GAAP financial statements and summary analysis, communicating findings to Controller.
Supervise month-end closing process.
Review and approve monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
Oversee and approve reconciliations of other departments activity and general ledger postings, such as Advancement, Financial Aid, Conferencing and Grants.
Work with other departments on campus to ensure adequate processes are followed in accounting for fixed assets.
Supervise Senior Accountant (Fiscal) and Accounting Operations staff.
Approve all journal entries.
Review weekly check runs for accuracy and appropriate approvals.
Oversee trainings sessions to educate University faculty/staff on all fiscal and accounting procedures.
Manage the interface between various computer systems for accounting, payroll and other external systems.
Work directly with auditors on annual external audit.
Assist Controller with preparation of annual tax returns for University and Foundation (Form 990, 990-T, etc.)
Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
Perform related duties as assigned by the Controller.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent with emphasis in Accounting.
Knowledge of current GAAP.
Intermediate level of experience in MS Excel, expert preferred.
Exhibit exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision; must have the ability to meet deadlines and maintain schedules.
Demonstrated collaborative management and team-building skills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and accounting skills.
Effectively maintain relationships with staff and faculty in a professional demeanor.
Knowledge and acceptance of mission and principals of Vanguard University.
Must be extremely detailed and work with a high degree of accuracy.
SALARY:
Full-time position. Salary iscommensurate with education and experience and includes a generous benefits package.
