At Stony Brook Medicine the Staff Auditor performs operational and financial audits while maintaining all organizational and professional standards. The Staff Auditor proactively keeps the Director of Internal Audit and unit managers informed of the progress of audit reviews, and actively participates in internal audit risk assessments and the work plan creation process. The Staff Auditor assists with the maintenance of in-house audit tools and performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Specific responsibilities of the Staff Auditor include, but are not limited to: perform audit reviews of major systems or units of the Stony Brook Medicine Health System. This consists of examinations for adherence to accepted standards as well as review of systems for integrity, security, adequacy of controls, effectiveness and efficiency, compliance with legal requirements and consistency with management objectives. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the design of audit objectives and procedures, assisting in the planning of audits and preparation of audit reports; assisting with the activities of other auditors.
Duties of a Staff Auditor may include the following but are not limited to:
Conduct audits according to the Annual Audit Plan. Perform audit fieldwork activities such as interviews and tests to assess effectiveness of operational, financial, and compliance controls. Gather sufficient and appropriate documentation to support audit work performed in accordance with departmental and professional standards.
Validate Hospital personnel Internal Control self-assessments
Assist colleagues in assigned phases of audit work and follow-up procedures.
Seek ongoing training to gain additional expertise in auditing standards.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in a related concentration from an accredited college or university.
Experience in accounting, auditing, or business analysis.
Knowledge of applicable auditing techniques and of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Professional certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, electronic audit work paper tools and techniques, i.e. TeamMate AM preferred.
Experience with data analysis, i.e. Audit Command Language (ACL) preferred.
