The Controller’s Office, Cash & Investments, intends to hire for one position at either the Senior Financial Analyst classification or Financial Analyst, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The University of Iowa is seeking a motivated individual to perform a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities to assure effective and compliant organizational, department, and unit operations. The position will provide accurate and timely accounting information that is used to develop reports, conduct financial analysis and planning, and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulations.
Remote work may be considered for this position, depending on the candidate’s location and interest, with the ability to be on campus for training and meetings occasionally. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.
Duties to Include:
- Assist with monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports
- Prepare reports for and analyze cash and change advances, cash percent split between non-UIHC and UIHC accounts, intermediate and long-term investment pools, P3 endowment, TTI balance sheet and reserve percentage, changes in average cash balance and student loan receivables and bad debt expense.
- Assist in the year-end closing of accounts and preparation of consolidated University of Iowa audited financial report.
- Develop financial reports from lead sheets and other sources to complete audit schedules, financial report footnotes and management discussion and analysis.
- Conduct variance analysis of financial information.
Location: Jessup Hall
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Financial Analyst - Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Typically, one year accounting and/or financial analysis experience
- Competent written and verbal communication skills
- Competent problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of accounting system software and functionality
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Financial Analyst - Desired Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word
- Query and report development experience utilizing Microsoft Access
- Experience with GASB or FASB Standards
- Experience in university accounting and financial reporting
- Knowledge of/experience with financial cost accounting
Senior Financial Analyst - Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Typically, three years accounting and/or financial analysis experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of accounting system software and functionality
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Senior Financial Analyst - Desired Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant
