Position Summary:
Washtenaw Community College has long standing relationships with several Building Trade Unions to provide training and development opportunities for their membership.
The Building Trades Accountant is responsible for collaborating with the Building Trades Team at the College and managing all financial aspects of the agreements under the direction of the Restricted Funds Accounting Manager. This position will also analyze, reconcile and invoice financial aid cost centers.
The position is funded with mostly outside funding and shall not be continued beyond the life of such funding. No continuing employment rights are inferred.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with Building Trades administrators to analyze and compile budgets and forecasts for Building Trades and related general fund cost centers.
• Monitor budgets for compliance and prepare transfer forms as needed.
• Analyze cost projections and profitability to prepare proposals for future agreements.
• Assist with preparation of agreement documents in regards to Building Trades Partners.
• Responsible for the approval of all Building Trades requisitions while adhering to procurement policies and procedures, use of proper account numbers, and adequacy of funds. Help staff process requisitions and resolve related problems.
• Be liaison between vendors and Building Trades administrators to resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Prepare expenditure reports and invoices in conjunction with ERISA specifications.
• Responsible for financial entries and reconciliations of all Building Trade Unions activity.
• Coordinate the UA faculty payroll process, collaborating with internal and external personnel.
• Verify payroll transactions for appropriate distribution and prepare related corrections.
• Participate in quarterly budget meeting with Vice President, Deans, and other administrators.
• Interact with Financial Aid Office to analyze, reconcile and invoice assigned cost centers.
• Prepare audit schedules.
Related Duties:
• Follow up with internal and external constituents to resolve concerns.
• Assist other restricted funds staff in preparation of reconciliations and proposals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Restricted Funds Accounting Manager.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and the equivalent of two (2) years successful full-time work-related experience in a position with comparable responsibilities using an integrated software system OR the equivalent education, training and experience as determined by College administration.
• Proficiency in the use of computerized accounting systems, integrated computer systems, Microsoft Office, and Internet applications in a Windows environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with Building Trade administrators, partners and government officials.
• Ability to appropriately handle confidential materials.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Strong analytical ability for organizing data and problem solving.
• Ability to work with detail and organize heavy workload.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Building Trade Unions.
