We are looking for an experienced Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to join our Finance team. The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will be responsible for leading all financial planning and analysis functions. The Director will work collaboratively on budgeting, reporting and analysis, and reviewing results with various agency stakeholders. This person will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with the Management Team as well as cross-functionally with all departments of the organization to increase the organization's efficiency in financial planning.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Working with the CEO and Management team, ensure annual budget aligns with strategic vision and annual operating plans for the organization
- Oversee and direct preparation of the organizational annual budget
- Oversee implementation of financial plans and annual budgets for each department
- Develop multi-year budgets and conduct scenario and contingency planning
- Generate monthly, quarterly and annual financial spending reports in collaboration with the finance team
- Interpret, analyze and communicate on monthly, quarterly and annual reporting for the Management Team and Board of Directors
- Meet with departments heads to review monthly budget to actual reports, understand variances and determine appropriate actions
- Provide project-specific financial planning support to editors and teams who apply for restricted and general operating grants from foundations
- Partner with project and/or editorial stakeholders to track actual grant spending against budget on an ongoing basis and communicate variances to program teams
- Generate financial reports for funders in line with grant budgets; as needed, complete budget modifications and additional reporting for funders
- Perform forecasting and re-forecasting of revenue and expense minimally on a quarterly basis; conduct activity-based financial analyses to complement the organization's operations and programs
- Conduct historical and multi-year analysis to identify trends to inform future financial decisions
- Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools and dashboards that focus on key performance indicators for monitoring financial health
Qualifications / Skills:
- 5+ years of experience with increasing responsibility for finance and accounting functions, preferably within a not-for-profit or digital media environment
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent, CPA or MBA a plus
- Highly organized
- Working knowledge of accounting systems, journal entries, data collection and data analysis
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, resource planning and financial management
- Understanding of general accounting concepts
- Comfortable with Google Docs, Slack, Quickbooks, Bill.com, CRM
- Advanced proficiency Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite - primarily Excel and Google Sheets
- Ability to communicate in a clear, friendly, professional and proactive manner
- Passionate about working with an excellent non-profit organization
