Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Finance and Accounting Department. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the successful candidate will collaborate with Accounting and Finance team to support and maintain accurate accounting records and reporting. This is achieved through monthly journal entries, account analysis and reconciliation, variance analysis, ad-hoc reporting, and forecasts/budgets for their respective areas of responsibility. This position will be responsible for learning and applying technical accounting skills as part of a team to carry out tasks with coaching and supervision. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks and develop skills in a number of areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Agency funds
• Journal entries for various transactions
• Budget maintenance and support
• General ledger account reconciliation
• Miscellaneous invoicing
• Support monthly and annual close process
• Support financial reporting process
• Financial analysis
• Tax remittance and reporting
• Other duties as may be assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Accounting experience of 2-5 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Database skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel with the ability to perform basic analytics and functions. Problem solver who is detail oriented with strong organizational skills, able to contribute new ideas and find solutions to business challenges. Innovative self-starter who is action oriented and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Quick to understand, learn, and apply ideas effectively. Ability to prioritize tasks and interact supportively and professionally with all members of the campus community. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP system a plus. Non-profit accounting a plus.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Salary/Pay Information

Commensurate with experience

Anticipated Schedule

Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
