The Bard College Controller's Office is seeking a self-motivated individual to assist in daily accounting processes and in paying tax liabilities to municipalities. The Junior Accountant will support the Controller, Assistant Controller, and Senior Accountants in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department. The ideal candidate should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others. The candidate will handle confidential information and should be able to identify and participate in problem resolution.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, 12-month-per-year position reporting to the Controller and Assistant Controller. The successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation and religion.
Essential Duties
- Review and approve monthly corporate card reconciliations; interact with cardholders
- Feed externally generated entries for the Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Development offices into the accounting system; liaise on status inquiries
- Assist in handling restricted accounts
- Reconcile due to/from accounts
- Assist auditors by providing documentation and/or information as required
- AP reporting capabilities (1099, 1st B Notices)
- Interact with new vendors and create vendor files in Banner
- Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks that may be required
- All other duties as assigned
- Associate's degree in business-related field required, Bachelor's degree in business-related field preferred
- Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial/numeric data and exhibit accuracy and strong attention to detail
- General knowledge of GAAP
- MS Office Suite proficiency
- Highly skilled in use of Excel spreadsheets
- 1 year of professional experience preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team, especially when under deadline
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in standard office environment
- Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds
- Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed
