Based in DeKalb, Illinois, the Illinois Counseling Association (ICA) is a 3,000-member based organization focused on promoting high professional standards and increasing access to professional counselors across Illinois. As a 501c6 professional association, ICA provides leadership, advocacy, resources, and professional development for the counseling profession.
The Executive Director of the Illinois Counseling Association is a strategic, polished leader who holds the organization’s strategic vision under the guidance and direction of the ICA Executive Committee. The ICA Executive Director reports to the ICA President, Executive Committee, and Governing Council. The ICA ED directs day-to-day ICA operations and ensures administrative, programmatic, and public policy initiatives align with the ICA’s Strategic Plan. The ED will also oversee advocacy and leadership development programs to support and engage the ICA Governing Council, Executive Committee, and other key stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, the ICA Executive Director must possess strong written and verbal communication skills to strategically strengthen the ICA membership and initiatives. The Executive Director must be able to work both independently and within organizational expectations while collaborating with all major stakeholders both inside and outside the ICA.
Job Duties Include:
- Collaborate with the ICA President, the Executive Committee, and the Governing Council to identify, create, and implement strategic plans to actualize ICA business objectives.
- Identify, recruit, train, and develop a talented team of staff who can lead critical functions to ensure ICA strategic goals are met.
- Apply data driven analysis to monitor ICA operations and ensure staff and organization practice align with strategic plans.
- In collaboration with the ICA President, develop the organizational culture and promote transparency and collaboration throughout the organization.
- Identify and develop opportunities to partner with divisions, chapters, regions, and other organizations to promote mutually beneficial programs and initiatives.
- Represent the ICA at all relevant events and functions.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree relevant to duties and responsibilities (Master’s preferred).
- At least five years of executive management experience with a proven track record of stable growth and development.
- A capacity to display cultural competence in all aspects of the role.
- Excellent organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high- performance teams, set, and achieve strategic objectives.
- Monitor, maintain, and manage the ICA budget in collaboration with the ICA accountant.
- Past success working with governing bodies and the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
- Strong marketing and public relations skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
