Reporting to the Finance Manager (FM), the Financial Operations Specialist 2 provides procurement, budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis support to the Department of Pathology(DOP), within the College of Medicine (COM) , Ohio State University Physicians (OSUP) and Faculty Group Practice (FGP), which contains general, salary recovery, earnings, endowment, development, research, contract, academic enrichment, and state contract funds. Works with the DOP Finance Manager and Senior Accountant at (OSUP) to provide support for clinical operations. Performs analysis of revenue and expense, identifies potential new revenue streams and opportunities for cost reductions; variance analysis reports, and scorecards; performs financial reconciliations; gathers information for internal and external requests for data; manages relationship and serves as liaison with COM Service Center staff to facilitate smooth and expedient processing for procurement, travel, and other financial transactions. Analyzes and interprets University policies and procedures related to fiscal expenditures; discusses areas of concern with the finance team and makes recommendations to lab managers. Implements fiscal processes, procedures, improvements, and training to ensure adherence to appropriate internal controls and compliance with established policies and procedures. Provides systems approval for compliant fiscal expenditures for the DOP and OSUP. Assists with requests from auditors, gathers documentation and answers questions; maintains documents for departmental records; collaborates with Finance Manager and other DOP staff on projects .Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field, and two years of financial management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required; knowledge of accounting principles and applications required; considerable experience in a progressively responsible financial management capacity required, preferably in a university or academic medical center setting; quantitative skills preferred; computer skills with demonstrated ability to use technical applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and Workday strongly desired; advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel strongly desired. Requires successful completion of a background check.
