The role you’ll contribute:
The Accountant I’s responsibilities include ensuring that all financial transactions are properly stated, amount is correct and financial statement classifications are accurate. The accountant also is responsible for month-end closing procedures as well as Cash Accounting, Capital Accounting, Foundation Accounting and other duties as assigned. The accountant works on various projects, which may include reconciling all assigned balance sheet classes, working with internal and external auditors, and preparing and submitting all forms related to budget, tax, corporate, regulatory, and community benefits. The accountant provides assistance in developing actionable information, including communication to all levels of the hospital, and provides coaching to co-workers, helping with problem resolution. The accountant reviews/validates financial information, assumptions, and methodology. The accountant actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

- Gathers and analyzes financial statement information to prepare month end journal entries for all assigned financial classes, cost center, and entities. Ensures that all entries to the financial statements and subsidiary ledgers, from any source system, are approved and posted to the correct location.
- Provides support and assistance in developing and communicating actionable information at all levels of the organization and provides leadership in communication and presenting effectively both internally and externally.
- Provides coaching to co-workers appropriately and effectively as part of overall responsibility, and demonstrates ability to help staff to frame issues and apply analytical and critical thinking skills to problem resolution.
- Reviews and validates financial information, assumptions and methodology based on a thorough understanding of financial concepts, healthcare principles and Advent Health systems.
- Supports the monthly close process, always meeting deadlines and getting answers for questionable amounts, and routinely reconciles assigned balance sheet classes to a lead schedule and reports issues to department leaders.
- Participates in internal and external audits, providing explanations and support for the financial statements.
- Completes all assigned regulatory, tax, community benefit, budget, and AHS forms on time and without errors. Makes judgment decisions on forms as needed, for example, building the entire budget for an entity.
- Implements new accounting and control process and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the Department.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Complete understanding of double entry accounting and an operational understanding of routine accounting functions
- Working knowledge of personal computer applications and spreadsheet analysis
- Ability to handle a large number of tasks and projects at one time
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
- Proven analytical and organizational abilities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Four (4) year accounting degree, OR
- Four (4) years of accounting-related experience, and actively pursuing an Accounting/Finance Degree
