POSITION: Financial Director (Half Time Position)
WAGE: Commensurate with experience based on association benchmark salary ranges

DESCRIPTION: The Financial Director (FD) is responsible for overseeing the financial functions for the National Association of Dental Plans (NADP) and the California Association of Dental Plans (CADP). This includes overseeing and enhancing financial operations, including investments, budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, ensuring compliance with all audits, financial guidelines, and regulations. The FD is responsible for developing organization-wide policies and procedures related to finance, accounting, purchasing and ensuring staff perform within NADP and CADP guidelines and policies. The FD reports to NADP’s Executive Director and CADP’s Executive Director and is a member of NADP’s senior team. The FD participates in the associations’ strategic planning processes, presents to the Boards of Directors of financial matters, and maintains constructive relationships with other association staff and member companies.
DUTIES:
- Manage annual budget formulation process.
- Keep Executive Directors informed of all critical issues, including those related to budgeting, cash flow, and other key projects and initiatives.
- Provide strategic and financial advice in other areas, including strategic investments.
- Manage day-to-day financial operations.
- Manage audits, including answering auditors questions, review audited statements and 990.
- Provide financial management oversight and reporting in accordance with GAAP and direction from governance bodies.
- Support NADP and CADP’s strategic plans and association initiatives.
- Participate in association meetings and conferences, providing financial updates as needed.
- Support associations’ PACs and Foundation, and complete required filings.
- Communicate and respond to inquiries in a timely fashion.
- Produces materials on NADP and CADP finances and processes as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field(s).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred.
- 10 years of professional experience, preferably in a not-for-profit association environment.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills, including the ability to plan and implement in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to gather, interpret, analyze, and report financial data.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational, and computer skills.
- Experience with SAGE preferred.
- Skill meeting needs of members, customers, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in managing financial resources in keeping with budget.
- Experience working with association management/membership database preferred.
LOCATION: NADP is headquartered in Dallas, Texas with a number of remote-based employees.
SALARY/BENEFITS: NADP salaries are currently benchmarked to the median of ASAE data for trade organizations of similar budget and staff sizes with national scope. In addition to salary, there is potential for up to a 5% annual bonus based on performance.
NADP provides 8 holidays and 40 hours of annual paid leave for half-time employees.
BACKGROUND: The National Association of Dental Plans (NADP) is the trade association representing the dental benefits industry. NADP members provide dental benefits products to over 200 million Americans and include the entire spectrum of dental carriers: companies that provide both medical and dental coverage, companies that provide only dental coverage, major national carriers, regional, and single state companies, as well as companies organized as non-profit plans. NADP also manages the California Association of Dental Plans (CADP) with several NADP staff supporting CADP’s activities with a completely separate governance structure and financials.
