The Senior Financial Accountant performs analytical review and reconciliation procedures on financial information and transactional data, provides guidance and instruction to campus budget administrators at all levels, assists in preparation of monthly financial reports and annual financial statements, serves as power user for the accounting system for the University and performs key reconciliation processes within the accounting system. This position is directly responsible for maintaining and reconciling functional accounting areas such as: fixed assets, treasury operations, construction project cost management, financing, bond issuance, federal and state financial reporting as well as federal, state and local tax analysis
Essential Functions
- Responsible for maintaining fixed asset and capital projects accounting records
- Assure proper accounting of fixed asset additions and disposals, capital project cost accounting, debt issuance, investment activity and financial transactions
- Assure accuracy of depreciation calculations for 2,000+ assets and manages the physical inventory process
- Reconciles bank and investment statements
- Prepare daily and monthly journal entries as they relate to the fixed asset records
- Engage with external auditors on the University, WBGU, Foundation, Centennial Falcon Properties audit procedures as well s any future Thorough knowledge of Financial Accounting Standards Board, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and internal control standards is critical.
- In correlation with Design and Construction, assure accuracy of projects in process and the recording of projects at
- Perform analytical procedures including investigation of unusual transactions or unexpected variances on monthly financial Assure proper accounting procedures are maintained throughout the University.
- Assist with monthly closing and related reporting as well as year-end financial statement processing including the annual audit
- Assist in financial statement preparation for annual reporting for the University
- Reconciling and preparing year-end entries
- Work with the external auditors in their annual audit of the University financial statements
- Assist in maintaining electronic accounting information and serve as a power user for the FMS system
- Enter and retrieve information, write queries to produce special reports
- Assist in the investigation, documentation, and resolving system problems
- Testing of the fixed asset module when new upgrades are installed
- Assist in training new FMS users or current users when new processes exist
- Assist in providing guidance on inquiries related to accounting system issues and processes of the General Accounting Staff
- Maintain debt schedules and recording of debt in the accounting records
- Assure proper accounting of long term and related short term debt in the general ledger
- Assure accuracy of interest payments and the recording of interest
- Maintain proper reconciliation of detail debt schedule to the general ledger
- When necessary, prepare journal entries as they relate to debt and related interest
- Backup to Treasury Accountant for daily bank reconciliation process in FMS
- Complete other responsibilities and projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of GMP, GASS, FASS, IASB as well as fund accounting principles and the basics of taxation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to analyze and problem solve
- Working knowledge of complex Financial ERP Systems as well as the various business processes and procedures
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications

Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
- Bachelor's Degree must be conferred at time of application.

The following Experience is required:
- 4 years of general accounting
- 2 years with external or internal audits
The following Licensure is preferred:
- CPA or eligible to sit for CPA exam
