Ensures Trinity University is in compliance with tax laws. Provides expertise and serves as a key university resource on tax issues. Advance compliance with federal and multiple state tax laws throughout the campus community by acting as the unified resource for interpretation, education, and enforcement regarding tax issues. Responsible for monitoring developments affecting the university's tax reporting obligations relating to changes in tax laws, informational tax returns, unrelated business income tax, reportable transactions, foreign bank account reporting, transfers of property to foreign organizations, and other emerging issues.
- Assists the Office of Endowments in evaluating and structuring investment opportunities regarding tax matters; meets regularly with the Office of Endowments.
- Conducts research and tracks tax-related legislative changes that may impact the university.
- Conducts research and provides guidance on tax implications of foreign investments.
- Monitors unrelated business activities at the university and ensures appropriate filing on annual tax returns. Reports on potential exposure to unrelated business income tax.
- Interprets and applies accounting theory and tax knowledge to prepare tax returns and other regulatory reports.
- Coordinates the preparation of university tax returns, including but not limited to Forms 990 and 990T.
- Works closely with outside tax consultants to ensure the university is filing in all applicable jurisdictions; minimizes tax liabilities, whenever possible.
- Manages K-1s and foreign tax returns for Trinity University's investments.
- Provides adhoc legal tax research; completes special projects, as needed.
- Collaborates with relevant campus departments to determine the appropriate procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Ensures compliance with collection and remittance of sales tax for all campus organizations.
- Tracks and reports on the university's effort to maintain compliance with tax laws.
- Contributes to the maintenance of a complete inventory of policies and procedures.
- Maintains a commitment to service excellence in all interactions on behalf of the university.

EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a four-year college or university.
Preferred:
Master's degree or equivalent in taxation from four-year college or university.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Five years of related experience.
Preferred:
Experience preparing tax returns for universities or other exempt organizations which hold foreign investments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
- Extensive knowledge of accounting and tax principles and practices.
- Excellent understanding of 501(c) 3 investment related tax matters, including unrelated business taxable income.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to write clear, concise letters and emails.
