Accountant Part Time

Specific Job Title: Accountant - Part Time
Reports to: Associate Controller

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Controller, the Part Time Accountant is responsible for the performance of various account reconciliations, analyses, and unclaimed funds review and reporting.
Essential Functions:
- Perform monthly reconciliations and account analysis and related follow up and resolution of reconciling items with various departments.
- Assist with monitoring and reviewing unclaimed property for accounts payable, student refunds, payroll, third-party administrators, and the University's stormcard to ensure accuracy of the escheating process.
- Assist with the handling of the required due diligence notifications, including coordinating with various areas to ensure that voids and reissuances are timely and accurately processed.
- Coordinate with Student Financial Services to ensure that federal refund checks are identified and processed according to federal guidelines.
- Assist with the preparation and timely filing of the annual unclaimed funds report.
- Assist with filing and recovering the University`s unclaimed property from New York State and handling claims notifications received directly from various organizations.
- Coordinate the processing of departmental journal entries.
- Aid with fiscal year-end audit and financial statements by preparation of supporting audit schedules.
- Assist with training and supervising student workers.
- Assist with documenting and updating accounting policies and procedures.
- Recommend and implement procedures to improve the efficiency of assigned areas.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as may become necessary.
Competencies
- Detail oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy while working on a variety of tasks.
- Must possess analytical skills and be self-motivated.
- Understand accounting principles and the related internal controls.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Access.
- Knowledge of Ellucian Banner financial systems preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
Position supervises student workers who assist with specific tasks.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.
Physical Demands
Physical demands would be of a typical office environment with the employee required to sit for extended periods at a computer. Communicate by phone and email with various departments and outside constituents.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position that requires you to work at least twenty hours per week.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1 to 3 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of related experience.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly salary range for this position is $28-$31.
