Manages complex university accounting processes and reporting. Ensure compliance with internal controls and with pronouncements promulgated by various accounting authorities.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage preparation of the universityâ™s GAAP audited financial statements. Oversee the analysis of the various components of the University audited financial statements and coordinate their completion with the external auditors. Review components of the financial statements compiled by the External Reporting Accountant to ensure integrity of data disclosed in the financial statements. Manage efforts with University Reporting team to facilitate GAAP reporting from University financial accounting system.Â
- Manage and direct External Reporting technical staff responsible for documenting the Universityâ™s evaluation of internal controls using COSO format and preparing the Universityâ™s audited financial statements, Report on Federal Financial Assistance in Accordance with Uniform Guidance, NSF Survey of research expenditures, employee benefit plan audited financial statements, affiliate reporting, the financial segment of the IPEDS survey, and other ad hoc reporting requirements.
- Prepare complex financial analysis or modeling to support the decision making process. Certain assignments could also include functional oversight of other personnel in order to complete a project.
- Research and document impact of new accounting pronouncements.
- Participate and provide support on special projects related to university accounting and reporting; work to improve data quality to meet diverse and changing needs; spearhead projects that increase efficiencies through automation and process re-engineering; provide support and counsel to senior management with regards to data analysis, planning, reporting, and development of resources to achieve short and long term goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or MBA is a plus.
- Experience in a decentralized and/or university environment.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated analytical and accounting skills with strong attention to details.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; excellent interpersonal skills; a service-oriented communicator who is a true team player with the ability to forge relationships.
- Self-motivated individual driven by challenge with the ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity; an analytical mind with a high degree of intelligence and the ability to âœthink on his/her feet.
- Ability to meet deadlines with varying degrees of pressure; committed to providing the effort required to âœget the job doneâ.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making capabilities; ability to properly assess pertinent data and develop a framework for effective and practical solutions to complex issues.
- Knowledge of internal controls; ability to streamline/automate transaction processing and recording.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and five year of progressive experience in general accounting, budgeting, reporting and financial analysis.

G15Salary Range
$82,500.00 - $145,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Accommodation
