Job Description:
Accountant III, Student Financial Services
Grade 18, AFSCME Unit position, 37.5 hours/week
Campus Location: Position resides primarily on the Lynn campus, but is expected to work in Danvers occasionally as well as remotely in Centro Hub.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
SALARY: $2,132.21 biweekly, ($55,437.46 per year) with fringe benefits. An appointment made from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at this salary, step #1 of the range or as adjusted in accordance with the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Full time benefited employees at North Shore Community College are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package offered through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Responsible for student account receivables payments including collections, Intercept, and third party; daily reconciliation for all cashier sessions in Lynn office; communicating with students, parents and third-party vendors about the College's tuition payment policies and practices, assisting them with their financial aid/student accounts inquiries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the Student Financial Services (SFS) primary contact for student accounts related questions, inquiries or services-related issues.
- Utilize collections experience to resolve past due accounts, reinforce the NSCC past due balance policy, and be able to make professional judgment for settlement, when necessary.
- In charge of student accounts related staff training for the Lynn SFS office.
- Responsible for making sure the payment posting procedure is done with accuracy and consistency from posting to the end of the day closing.
- Process daily check scans and bank file transfers.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate daily reconciliation of cashier sessions for Lynn staff.
- Provide students with accurate and appropriate information about the College's billing and financial aid process.
- Reconcile, verify, and process intercept and collection payments.
- Responsible for monthly in-house payment plan review, conduct delinquency communication and outreach.
- Work closely with the SFS management team to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Point of contact for Student Financial Services to oversee and resolve FAFSA discrepancies.
- Assist with creation of corporate contracts
- Update Student Accounts related informational sheets and forms.
- Process third-party tuition remissions.
- Process tuition vouchers and agency waivers.
- Create itemized bills.
- Process payments for third-party tuition/fee waivers.

Requirements:
- Associate's Degree in a related field, 2 years' accounting experience in Student Financial Services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, computational, written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to reconcile reports and systems and communicate and resolve issues with various College constituents.
- Thorough knowledge of Commonwealth of MA and college level accounting practices and procedures is required.
- Detail-oriented with excellent editing/proofreading skills related to financial reports and student accounts.
- Knowledge in MA collections procedure and regulations.
- Experience working with collection agencies in researching and analyzing account activity/history.
- Ability to evaluate past due account status and exercise professional judgment for settlement, when necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Windows to create task efficiencies.
- Problem-solving skills are a must, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in all mediums.
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced multi-task environment and to plan, prioritize and forecast multiple tasks on a schedule with minimal supervision.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner, EAB Navigate, and IBM Cognos Analytics. Familiarity with other software systems is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socio- economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and potentially weekends. Must have the ability to commute between campuses and to off campus events.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI background check as a condition of employment.
