The Office of General Accounting is seeking an Accountant II to provide support with the preparation of the University's annual audited financial statements, the University's quarterly unaudited financial statements, and the School of Medicine's monthly financial statements. In addition, the department operates as a service function to the divisions and other central functions as it relates to journal entry processing, survey preparation and other reporting needs.
The Accountant II is responsible for working with the divisions and central functions to compile, analyze and report financial information daily, as well as perform transactions to ensure the University is in compliance with GAAP accounting standards. In addition, the Accountant II assists with schedules prepared for the University's audited financial statements and interacts with the external auditors.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Process journal entries and cost transfers between divisions within the University using SAP.
- Prepare journal entries, including moderately complex transactions, to ensure GAAP compliance.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to subledgers and resolve increasingly complex discrepancies.
- Provide customer service support to the user community.
- Assist in the creation and analysis of SAP reports as needed.
- Research transaction details for the user community as needed.
- Provide external auditors transaction detail and support for various general ledger data samples.
- Review and research large transactions on a routine basis.
- Prepare surveys, reporting requests and other governmental reporting requirements.
- Maintain support and documentation for various reporting needs.
- Assist in the preparation of the Form 990 tax returns for the University and Jhpiego.
- Prepare ad Hoc reporting to respond to various executive/committee needs.
- Gather and provide supporting documentation for the annual audited financial statements, footnote disclosures and analytical review.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, Word, PowerPoint, and various other applications.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
- Two years related experience. If bachelor's degree is in unrelated field, three years of progressively responsible experience is required.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: Min $53,300 - Max $93,500 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
