The Capital Accountant reports to the Director of Capital Accounting and performs general entry-level and intermediate accounting duties which relate to fixed assets and accounting standards. This position is responsible for capital accounting to ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Duties and Responsibilities
- Researches and resolves capital accounting issues by contacting on-site personnel to determine the reasons for issues and how to resolve them.
- Reviews CIP accounts and posts entries to capitalize the amounts for any completed projects.
- Tracks expenditures in Yardi; ensures all expenditures are in compliance with policies and procedures as described by GAAP.
- Verifies that capital vendors are paid properly.
- Serves internal and external customers by resolving all capital questions, requests or concerns.
- Reconciles fixed assets and general ledger.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration and two or more years of experience in an accounting related field required
Preferred Qualifications
- FAS and SQL knowledge preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices
- Skill in working with detailed financial information
- Skill and ability to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in writing
- Skill in collaboration with other associates and associate groups
- Skill in researching information and coming to conclusions and recommendations
- Skill with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain appropriate discretion
