POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant contributes toward the overall business office operations, with primary focus on Accounting, as well as Accounts Payable and Student Billings. Will prepare and review financial documents, reports, and statements. Oversee all accounting procedures (e.g. tax returns, month-end closures, budgeting) and advise on general financial matters.
Responsible for all aspects of Accounts Receivables (AR) including Student Debit Card and AR related to students, Summer Portals and other summer programs. This includes but not limited to: Enrollment Contracts, Reservation Fees, Loans, Tuition Refund Insurance, Tuition Management Service plans and Financial Aid Awards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Preparing journal entries, updating financial statements, maintaining accounts receivable and accounts payable, and preparing financial reports.
Responsible for balancing bank statement reconciliations.
Maintaining the financial records of Westover School through the analysis of balance sheets and general ledger accounts, as well as preparing reports.
Process enrollment contracts, reservation fees, loans, Tuition Refund Insurance, oversee/balance Tuition Management Services plans, financial aid awards, and other miscellaneous items that relate to student accounts;
Set up and maintain student files via Tuition Manager data entry;
Respond to parents/guardians, faculty, and staff, as applicable, to ensure timely processing of above documents;
Process tuition refund insurance claims;
Reconcile on a monthly basis student reservations fees, tuition, technology fees, health facility fees, financial aid, loans, student insurances and other miscellaneous student charges to the General Ledger;
Issue and maintains records associated with Odin & My Kids Spending system;
Prepare daily reports for My Kids Spend & Odin Point of Sale areas and post sales amounts to Blackbaud. Reconcile student spending account balances and vendor sales on a monthly basis.
Perform other related duties as assigned that may or may not be incidental to the work described herein.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors in Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field with 3-5 years accounting experience highly preferred;
Ability to prepare accurate reports using various statistical or other detailed information sources;
Skilled in operating a computer terminal and accessing data;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues from a diverse array of backgrounds and identities;
Versatile computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Excel and Ability to effectively use accounting software databases (experience with Blackbaud is a big plus);
Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines;
Accurate data entry, data processing and proof-reading skills.
