Are you interested in leading a dedicated payroll team and ensuring meticulous processing for a diverse workforce?

The Interim Payroll Director ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for approximately 4,700 employees. Responsibilities include supervising payroll staff, coordinating payroll activities, and ensuring compliance with tax and reporting requirements. The role also involves collaborating with HR and benefits administrators and managing the Paylocity and Kronos systems. This person should also be able to problem solve and manage the department's needs in addition to coaching others and improving overall efficiency. The Interim Payroll Director reports to the Controller.

Position Duties:

• Directly supervises a payroll staff of three: Assistant Payroll Director, Payroll Specialists, Payroll Accountant.
• Coordinates processing of various payrolls, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Reviews payroll processing details before transmission to Paylocity, including PAF reviews and reconciliation of reports.
• Manages salary increases for administrators and union employees.
• Recommends and implements efficient payroll processing policies and procedures.
• Collaborates with IT for system integrity and implements necessary policies.
• Assists with fiscal year-end procedures and union audits.
• Prepares required payroll schedules and reconciles accounts with the general ledger.
• Reviews and processes audits, ensuring accurate W-2s and timely IRS filings.

Qualifications:
Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of payroll experience, with higher education experience preferred.
• 3 years of supervisory experience in general ledger and integrated accounting systems.
• Knowledge of payroll accounting principles and applicable laws.
• Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suites, and preferably Ellucian Colleague ERP system.
• Experience with payroll software and time and attendance systems is preferred (Paylocity, NextGen, Kronos).
• Strong critical thinking, integrity, and commitment to best practices.
• Effective communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.

SALARY is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $104,000-116,000.
