The Bureau of Local Government and Schools Services is looking for a positive, optimistic person to join our Local Audit and Finance Division team. Additional highlights of this work include, but are not limited to the following:
*Perform in-depth and lower-level reviews of financial statements submitted by units of local government to be used for the identification of fiscally stressed local units.
*Review the audits of staff.
*Track the timeliness of a local unit's response to a request for information including financial statements.
*Write, revise, and update auditing and accounting manuals, bulletins, guides, forms and other information applicable to local governmental units.
*Provide technical advice in answering accounting and auditing questions from the public, local governmental unit officials, other agencies, and Local Audit Section staff.
*An opportunity to learn and perform financial audit for local government.
*Work on special projects.

Required Education and Experience Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.
Experience
Note: Experience is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree.
Auditor 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Auditor 10
One year of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor 9.
Auditor P11
Two years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor 10.
Applicants who possess a degree from a foreign college or university must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless the degree has been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Go to evaluators for a list of accepted organizations that evaluate foreign credentials. Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level.
OR
Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of experience at the P11 level.
OR
Possession of a Certified Internal Auditor certification or a Certified Information System Auditor certification may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level for positions responsible for internal auditing.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credits (36 term) in finance, information systems, or management may be substituted for the education for positions responsible for internal auditing.

This position is eligible for remote work up to five days per week, with monthly in-person meetings at the Austin Building in Lansing. Selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Please note that occasional onsite work will be required.
Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Interviews will likely occur virtually using Microsoft Teams. No prior experience with Teams is necessary, as instructions and tips will be provided to all candidates scheduled for an interview.
