General Accountant 3 (GEN ACCOUNTANT 3)
Job Summary
The General Accountant 3 performs complex professional accounting and financial duties for the Health System. Plans, develops, and coordinates complex professional financial analysis in a highly independent manner using a comprehensive knowledge of general ledger, accounting, and healthcare financial practices. Prepares financial analyses and reports including variance analysis reports and other ad-hoc financial reports for presenting to various levels of personnel, from departmental staff to senior management. Provides analytical support to improve reconciliation processes for Patient Accounts. Acts as a general accounting liaison for Patient Accounts Administration. Prepares recommendations and financial models to assist the organization in improving Medical Center general accounting recording and reporting. The Patient Accounts Administration department reports to the Associate Director, Revenue Cycle. The General Accountant is primarily responsible for the reconciliation of the daily, weekly and monthly payments. Ensures that reconciliation is performed in a timely manner in accordance with UC Policy and Internal Control Policies. The reconciliation report of these payments must be done at the detail level, meaning to the actual patients account in comparison to the deposit and the accounts receivable ledger for each area.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors' degree in Accountancy or Finance desired and/or a combination of direct work experience and education
- Proven experience with advanced knowledge of accounting and financial management principles, theory and practice including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles in Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) environment
Demonstrated professional level of analytical, statistical and mathematical skills to conduct complex financial analyses - Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including formatting, Vlookups, IFs, Sumifs, and Pivot Tables
- Experience in summarizing, analyzing and accurately reporting on large volumes of data using multiple systems in a timely manner
- Proven ability to develop executive summaries, as well as detailed financial and statistical reports, including ability to present findings in a professional and clear manner to senior leadership
- Proven ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and produce quality work while meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of PC office tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Access, or similar software to problem solving and report production
- Ability to prioritize and organize work, clearly communicating status to stakeholders and achieving deadlines
- Experience with Decision Support data and knowledge of Kuali, Lawson and EPIC desired
- Ability to interpret policies related to cash handling and internal control and audit guidelines
- Ability to develop innovative and sound solutions to complex, unprecedented and unusual problems
- Ability to assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many individuals, work with minimal supervision, and take initiative to follow up on projects
