Job Description
Sewickley Academy is seeking to hire a Controller. This role is responsible for supervising and managing the accounting department and all areas of financial reporting. This role will develop and maintain accounting principles, best practices, and systems for collecting, analyzing and reporting information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the annual budget preparation and approval process for 24 departments
- Supervise members of the Business Office team including the Staff Accountant and Accounting Specialist
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and any other applicable standards
- Prepare financial records for annual independent audit and assist the audit team in preparation of the annual tax return, form 990, and other returns including form 5500
- Assist with the compliance of all federal and state financial reporting requirements
- Prepare financial reports which are reported to school leadership, finance committee, and the Board of Trustees
- Evaluate purchases/fixed assets, capitalize, and complete depreciation process
- Complete bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, and monthly closing procedures
- Oversee the billing process for student tuition and incidentals which is completed on a monthly basis
- Establish internal control policies and procedures for the Business Office
- Review and record monthly payroll activity for all employees
- Work closely with admissions office on creating and analyzing the annual enrollment contract for students
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager, Non Profit experience preferred
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with QuickBooks accounting software for Non Profit.
- Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent written, verbal communication skills, and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Advanced knowledge of accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
