The UCPath Center is the University of California's shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, five medical centers, three national labs and more. Position Summary The incumbent uses accounting concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of accounting practices and organizational policies and procedures to resolve complex assignments where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors and multiple sources. The Staff Accountant exercises judgment within defined accounting procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. The Accountant receives general instructions on complex new assignments and initiatives. The incumbent demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. As a part of a new shared service center, the Accountant may initially assist in building out a broader scope of needed financial services.
Key Responsibilities
20% Interprets, streamlines and formats large amounts of financial data in an organized manner. Provides detailed analysis of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions.
25% Prepares journal entries, maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, including, but not limited to payroll liability accounts. Prepares queries and financial reports for various departments and answer questions related to the general ledger.
15% Ensures compliance, performs risk assessment and conducts internal audits, as well as supports the system-wide internal auditors and external auditors. Creates, reviews and documents internal controls as they pertain to shared service center transactions.
20% Uses various general accounting systems within UCPath for daily accounting responsibilities and research.
10% Performs account analysis, prepares account reconciliations, statements and reports. Plans, coordinates and resolves accounting matters with other Accounting department members, departments, locations and divisions.
10% Provides analysis on various accounting issues and prepares complex accounting projects.
Experience Required Qualifications
Min 5 years in Accounting, Finance or related experience
Skills and Abilities Required Qualifications
Has ability to independently gather, organize, and perform accounting related analysis with minimal supervision and guidance.
Has thorough knowledge of accounting functions and GAAP and GASB, financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.
Excellent people skills, with ability to effectively interact, collaborate, and influence across all levels of an organization.
Able to streamline and automate accounting processes and procedures and efficiently identify, research and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Ability to provide high quality work utilizing highly developed and effective communication (written and verbal), project management, time management, and collaboration skills. Ability to prioritize, streamline and accomplish assigned projects.
Proficient with MS Office applications, such as Word and PowerPoint (with intermediate skill level in Excel) and related industry software.
Ability to provide excellent service with integrity and handle confidential matters and material.
Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment and have the flexibility to handle multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities.
Ability to accomplish assigned projects without compromising the integrity of UCPath and/or University of California policies and procedures.
Highly self-motivated and focused with the ability to think strategically and focus on the accomplishment of the UCPath mission and priorities.
Education Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related area and / or equivalent experience / training
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at the UCPath Center in Riverside and remote in California.
