In the Department, efficient and effective financial stewardship intersects with creativity and innovation to provide stellar services and programs as well as support small and large-scale programs and projects such as the Blueprint for Gun Violence Reduction, Downtown Plaza, and the Strides shelter.
Responsibilities of Position
As a member of the Finance Department management team, the City Accountant has an integral role in ensuring the City’s financial wellness and performance. The person in this position is responsible for overseeing the City’s accounting system for the entire City organization, which has $193.6 million in budgeted expenditures for Fiscal Year 2023/24, including preparing interim and annual financial reports, and coordinating the annual audits. This position also supervises the accounting division staff, analyzes various types of financial data, and oversees banking services purchases and payroll. Work requires complex problem-solving and effective communication skills.
The annual starting salary range is $102,572 - $116,699, DOQ, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applicationsmust be submitted online no later than Monday, September 2, 2024, for full consideration, but position open until filled.

Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, and/or a business-related field.
Professional experience in administering, managing, or auditing accounting systems.
Supervisory experience that demonstrates the ability to plan and manage the work of subordinate staff.
An equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Public Finance Officer, Certified Government Financial Manager, or comparable designation.
Experience in Governmental Accounting.
Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or budget software systems.
Experience in managing grant internal control and financial reporting systems.
Expertise using spreadsheet applications.
Drug screening and criminal background check will be required.
