The Meadowbrook School of Weston, a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school located in Weston, MA, seven miles west of Boston, is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance and Operations to join our faculty. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Assistant Director will play an integral role in the Business Office and is responsible for the management and accuracy of the school’s financial records. Successful candidates will thrive at balancing the technical accounting/finance tasks with strategically designing and implementing processes that create operational excellence. Experience implementing new accounting systems is a plus. You will be able to collaborate across all departments and manage the day-to-day operations, including supervision of the Staff Accountant. You must have strong communication skills and the ability to analyze and communicate financial data/results effectively to all constituents including school leadership, faculty and trustees. The ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for all members of the community who need to work with the Business Office is required.

Responsibilities:
Participate fully as a member of The Meadowbrook School and of the Business Office team in support of a culture of community, respect, trust and continuous improvement
Provide leadership for all accounting and financial functions; promote a service-oriented environment; provide training, direction, motivation, and opportunities for skills development
Ensure that the School complies with all applicable accounting procedures and standards in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
Coordinate the annual financial and 403(b) audits including preparation of reports and reconciliations required for the audit, drafting the financial statements and assisting the auditors as needed
Coordinate the preparation of the School’s federal and state tax returns (Forms 990 and PC and Mass 3abc), as well as tax returns for the 403(b) retirement plans (Form 5500)
Prepare monthly financial statements with related budget/forecast variance analysis, cash flow analysis and projections, investments accounting and analysis, fundraising accounting and analysis, and other financial statistical reporting.
Ensure provision of timely and accurate monthly budgetary/forecast information to leadership team and departmental heads; perform analytical review procedures and audit individual department budget/forecast performance.
Supervise and assist Staff Accountant with student billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and purchasing as needed
Collaborate with the Staff Accountant to reconcile and report on donations to the Advancement Office monthly and annually
Assist the HR Coordinator with payroll and benefits accounting as needed
Work to maximize department utilization of accounting system
Work to continuously improve the School’s accounting, financial reporting and internal control policies and procedures
Provide support to auxiliary programs, which includes summer programs (Branches at Meadowbrook), after-school programs, rentals, and transportation
Collaborate with the Director of Finance & Operations to complete reports and surveys as required
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
CPA license and/or advanced degree preferred
Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience with a demonstrated track record of progressive responsibility including supervising a team
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
Non-profit accounting experience preferred; private education experience a plus
Strong technology and innovation skills; demonstrated ability to leverage technology and create efficiencies and process improvement
Impeccable attention to detail with the ability to think analytically and strategically
Excellent mathematical and quantitative skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a diverse group of people and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present data effectively
Previous experience with RFPs, specifically to evaluate and implement new accounting software preferred.
