Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant will be a member of the Business Office and provide support in four key areas: Accounts Payable, General Ledger Reconciliation, Student Loans, and Fund Accounting (Blackbaud Financial Edge). This position works closely with the Business Office team to support the financial planning, accounting, and budgeting functions of the school. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative and partner with the team to facilitate the monthly and FYE accounting close process and complete various projects to enhance Business Office efficiency. The role requires a high degree of professionalism, superior organizational and communication skills, and being extremely proactive and responsive. Responsibilities: Primary:
-Maintain current working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP); ensure appropriate financial policies and internal controls are implemented and followed. -On a monthly basis assist with reconciling reviewing and reconciling assigned general ledger accounts; prepare journal entries as necessary. -Assist with coordinating the internal annual financial statement audit; prepare work papers, analyses and reconciliation documents and schedules for annual audit. Assist with documents for completion of IRS Form 990, Forms 5500, 1094-C and 1095-C Forms. -Collaborate with the Development Office staff to reconcile fund designation for cash receipts and pledges. -Collaborate with departments to establish effective/efficient processes for financial management and oversight. -Oversee the accounts payable process ensuring purchase order automation is working effectively with the accounting software. -Invoice and communicate with patron’s regarding outstanding student loans and payment schedule. -Receive and prepare deposits. -Assist with preparing audit schedules. -Serve as backup for peers in the department. -Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities: -Knowledge of spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and word processing software, Blackbaud experience preferred. -Strong data entry and 10-key skills; -Excellent organization skills and attention to detail; -Excellent oral and written communication skills; -Customer-oriented with great people skills; -Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects. Education and Experience -Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required; -Three or more years of experience in accounting, preferably in an educational institution or other non-profit organization; -Experience with Microsoft Office products, practical experience with accounting software, Blackbaud preferred; willingness to adapt to and implement new/efficient work processes and applications; -Excellent interpersonal skills, strong ethics and the ability to handle confidential information; -Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills; -Able to work independently and collaboratively in a small, fast-paced office environment; ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
